For Ayako Mizumura, painting is a practice to cast an anchor in the present, to mark her past, and call for the future. She uses delicate and profound color tones to express a fantastic world, reminiscent of a large expanse filled with atmosphere and water.
One of the recurrent themes in her work is, “interlude” which depicts the concept of time. Life events are layered one after another relentlessly, and that passage of time weaves the threads of one’s life story. She enfolds meanings in a slice of time cut out of everyday life with her artwork.
